Moving and my cable modem

Ok so right now I'm living with my dad and our cable internet is in his name, but he doesn't use it and I'm the only one with a computer. Tomorrow I'm moving and my room mate has internet from the same ISP (comcast). They have a wireless router, but I'd rather keep my direct connection. Can I take my modem with me and still use it at the new apartment? My thinking is yes since theres cable there with the same ISP and the modem is still active. I just don't know if they have any way of knowing where it's plugged in or if that makes any difference at all.

You will have to pay for an additional IP address for that address. But yes, it should work, They will probably just split off the main line, with one output going to the original modem and the other output to your modem.

He would have to call and cancel his internet service. You would have to establish new service at your new address.

You can get your ISP to change your service to your new address, though they probably charge a fee for doing so.
