Moving OS from HDD to SSD

I already have windows 7 pro 64 bits on my HDD but I would like to get an SSD and install it on that. How do I remove the OS from the HDD and move it to the SSD or would I have to reinstall it?

You really can't take just the OS and leave everything else. Just reinstall it on the SSD with the installation disc.

I wouldn't recommend cloning from hdd to ssd. It's a lot of work and still could have troubles. Aligniment and the native adjustments 7 does w/clean install won't happen. Depending on where you are and what you can get 7(I presume)for, it would be worth the extra $ to clean install to the ssd. I've bought new sealed 7 Ulti. retail 3 times in the last 8 mo. from private parties for $70 each time.
Back up the hdd and format it as storage.

What? I'll get an SSD install windows 7 on it but then how do I delete windows 7 from my HDD?

Are you going to set up the hdd during the os/ssd setup?

Put the data you want to keep that's on the hdd, onto another storage device/media. Format the hdd, then move your data from the storage device/media back to the hdd.

no the OS is already installed on my rig I just want to boot frm an SSD rather then my HDD

ok, just copy everything you want to save. Then you can use Windows once you get it up and running, to format the hdd. Also, later today or tomorrow I'll be adding the steps to be able to format the hdd during os install in the Partitions section here
Setup and Manage SSD
