moving the boot sector

hi at the minute i wish to remove my 40gb ide hdd from my pc but i cant because it appears to have the boot sector on it.is it possible to move it to drive D . i have included a screenshot of the disk manager.please help i am getting fed up with the problem.

Can't see much from the picture as its too small. Are you only running one operating system? Not dual booting? Do you have the operating system install cd?
 
yer it is only one os. but with a lot of messing about with the install cd i was able to repair it and i have now got the hdd in a anti static bag and boxed up
