MP help

I have a 7.0 MP camara and wanted to know if I understand Pixals right?

First off 7.0 MP is how many Pix wide by How many Pix High???

7 Megapixels is the total number. The dimensions depends on the aspect ratio selected on the camera. If you are taking 4:3 aspect, then the pictures are:
width = square root of (7million x 4/3) = 3055
so height = 2646x3/4 = 2291

If it is 16:9, width = 3530 height = 1983

Edit: I'm not sure how the dimensions may vary in practice for different aspect pics on the same camera. If your camera is primarily designed for 4:3, the max width could be 3055 so if you took a 16:9 picture, the size may be 3055x1715 (5.2MP). I've never looked into that.
