mp3 question

If I rip a cd at 192 kbps will it sound slightly different if ripped by itunes or music match or windows media player? If so, which media player rips more accurately? Also, how do I look at the information in an mp3 file visually?

Audacity can load a mp3 file and display it as a simple waveform. It won't show you much, but it'll show you volume information on a time line and allow you to do simple editing.

As for what media player rips the best, I honestly can't say there's any difference. There may be difference if you choose to normalise volumes etc on the ripping process, but as for what encodes the best? If there is any difference, I couldn't say.

Its not the program you rip with that matters its the codec you are ripping (encoding) to.

As far as looking at an mp3 visually, like magicman said, audacity can open mp3 files and show you the waveform but you won't be able to tell the difference between an mp3 and an uncompressed file.

Also I'm pretty sure you won't be able to hear the difference between a 192kbps mp3 file and the original cd unless you are using an expensive set of speakers or an expensive set of headphones/earphones. This isn't to say there isn't any quality loss with an mp3 file or you can't hear the loss in quality, but without a good set of speakers/headphones/earphones that have a very good frequency response, you won't know the difference.
