mpeg to dvd

I have several .mpeg files I wanted burned to dvd. After some discussion with friends I decided to use Cucusoft Pro to do the conversion from .mpeg to .vob, and the burn. The new dvd plays just fine, but the sound is terrible. It pops, and cracks, and is just plain horrible. I can't even watch the new dvd the sound is so distracting.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Or is it just a setting in Cucusoft that I didn't set properly?

I checked the file where the .mpeg file was converted to the .vob file, and the .vob file is there where it should be in the Video_TS folder, but there is nothing in the Audio_TS folder.

Any advice/tips is much appreciated.

I dont see how so many people have problems with these. I had always used Windows Movie Maker or Nero to burn dvd's...

And I have burned .mpeg, .avi, .mpg, .asf... and probably more.. they had always converted the file to the supporting format to burn..

But anyways, you can try another tool besides Cucusoft and see if that helps. You can probably find free ones at download.com

I got a copy of Nero 7 and it seems to be working. The amount of options available is incredible. There are so many different things you can do. Anyway, it seems to be working, but I won't know until it's done burning. Hopefully the sound quality will be there this time.

I also use nero for converting .mpg and .avi files to DVD, it works very well. The only complaint is you cant choose the bit rate of the video and audio seperatly.
 
Are there problems associated by not being able to choose the bit rate of the video and audio seperatly? If so what? I guess what I'm asking is, why is it even important to have that option?

It's mostly not an issue, but if you have a mpg file that is too big for a dvd, instead of having the program reduce the quality of both video and audio, you can lower just the audio. Since nero usually assigns a much higher bit rate to the audio and video than whats needed.
