ms what??

Hey everybody, well I'm about to attempt my first build. I'm tired of my old Dell, it's too slow for me! I'm slowly getting stuff and using it on my old Dell until I have everything I need for the new one. The thing I'm in the market for now it an LCD monitor. I tried searching the forum for an answer without any luck, so...what is the diffrence between an 8ms and a 12ms? Which is better? What is ms, Mili-Seconds? I've seen a few 17" monitors on Newegg where the main diffrence between some of them is the ms. any explanation would be appreciated!!!!

An 8ms monitor is faster then the 12ms. This is a measurement of how fast a pixel goes from black to white or Grey to Grey etc. each company has their own method of measurement. You can get monitors now at 3ms Grey to Grey.

Oh yea sorry. Millisecond is One-thousandth of a second.

Also unfortunately due to the fact that different company's measure differently in some cases the 12ms could be just as fast if not more so then the 8ms. Always check to see how they are measuring the speed.

best bet with LCD's is to go with the lowest reaction time rating that you can afford. a friend of mine has a LCD rated at 16ms and says that his gaming is fine.
but lower is generally better
 
For further clarification, if an LCD screen has a high ms time (say 20 ms), you will notice blurring in the image during fast moving scenes. If you get one with a lower time (12ms and lower), there is less blurring.
Mine has 12 ms, and unless your looking hard for it, you dont notice any blurring. I've heard that 8ms and lower there is virtually no blurring.
 
Then again, if you dont game or watch videos, you dont need to go with a low ms monitor, you can pick up a 21ms and probably wouldnt even notice the difference.
