MSI KT3 Ultra compatibility issues

i have just upgraded my PC and given my bro parts of my old PC, hard drive, RAM and motherboard (MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E).

he has just bought some new bits a XFM GeForce 4 MX440 Video card and TRUST sound card. last weekend we spent it puting it together and it booted up fine. Windows recognised the new hardware and we tried to install the drivers for the Video card and sound card, it looked to be going ok,,all the way through installation until the very last part there was a 'Data Error' box. this happened for both Video & sound card.

i know something isn't quite right as the CPU which came with the board when i got it is a Athlon 2200+ and did have a clock speed of 1.8 GHz,,and now its reading at 1.5GHz.

my question is that, is this 2 year old motherboard,,too old for new components,,is my brother gonna have to get a new motherboard?

Hope u can help

what MB that is???
name it? abd i think there no problem consider with the MB!!
try to reset the bios or format your window and have a new fresh installtion!

Ignore the above post.

What the solution to the second problem with the processor speed could be is the way the FSB is configured in the bios. You have it most likely set at 100 instead of 133. Check if that's the case. This would result in the processor running at the wrong (slower) speed. This was the case in my MSI KT4 ULTRA motherboard. As to the first problem, I would try downloading the newest possible drivers from the internet. If that does not solve it, then I am guessing that maybe the drivers are not compatible with the OS you have. I am jsut guessing on this one. Hope this helps a bit.

I have had the same problem but with Radeon drivers. It gave me an error message at the end of the install, but it still installed correctly, so I thought nothing of it. As for the mobo Jan may be right about the FSB being set incorrectly, If you want to fix it easily just reset the BIOS, mind you that would reset everything for the mobo's IDE and whatnot, but it should reset it to the default FSB for that CPU.

Jump back in BIOS and set it back :)

He's got a MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E you can read about it here: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/KT3Ultra.htm

Its not too old for that processor you've got in there http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/kt3ultra-1.php

He's being tryin to do that. Theres no need to reset the BIOS.

Ignore the above post.
LOL that was a bit harsh dont you think?

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help

just solved the problem with the slow CPU, by changing the setting from 100 to 133.

As for the drivers for the video/audio cards i havent got round to that yet,,as my bro hasn't got a modem yet.

however he may take back his graphics card as i have been playing Half Life 2 this week and my graphics card (Geforce Ti 4600) has been struggerling,,,a lot more than Doom3. so i am thinking of getting a Gainward 6800 GT golden sample and giving him my old video card. The gainward is expensive, howver Xmas is just round the corner and i can get part of it paid for by my dad as a early Xmas present.

anyone got a Gainward 6800 GT golden sample??

I yanked the $200 card out last night
For starters the Audigy2 shouldnt be $200

Seems like alot of people are having problems with thier AUDIGY and VIA Chipsets. I wanna keep this card (because its one of the better cards out) and try replacing my motherboard.
I had some pretty messed up problems too but they were solved using the latest drivers

I was looking at the A7V880 Board with the VIA VT8237 Southbridge Chipset. The board also has "Dual Memory Channels". Will I be able to use this with what I've got? I have DDR333 Memory, 2x 256MB sticks.
You can use that board however the A7N___ series is a much more effective route :)

Gainward 6800 GT golden sample
If you meant Golden Sample UItra 2400 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-128-195&depa=0) then yes that's a good card ... far more than id pay for it tho but a good card
