Hi im not if im posting this in the correct place but...

My vista HP Pavilion DV500 laptop has been overheating for sometime now, and the other day whilst i was on it, it crashed and lots of multi coloured pixels filled my screen. It has now got to the point where i cannot boot the laptop at all, because of these horizontal black and white lines. I am unable to enter bios because they appear as soon as the power button is pressed.

I am presuming it is down to the overheating, and im guessing it maybe something to do with the CPU.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Luke.

Have you tried to take a compressed air can and blow dust out of the vents? Is the laptop on a hard surface or a soft surface like a bed or sofa when it is overheating?

It sounds like either your screen has died or, more likely as you said it was overheating, you have fried your GPU, which can't be replaced as it is integrated onto the motherboard

I like the topic. Thanks for sharing.

Crap, I had this happen on a DV7, it turned out to be the cables connecting the lcd, over time, got pinched by the left side hinge.

All sorts of crazy lines and colors started happening (although, mainly red lines and blotches), I had to disassemble and reroute the cable.

Might be different than your issue, but keep that in mind--it was a fairly easy fix!
