Multi-Partitions on hard drive help :/

Hellooo

Right so i while back i restored my laptop because it was running slow and had loads of crap on it. When i re-installed winXP it was fine for 2/3 weeks but then it started going tits-up.

Now whats happened is there is a boot error and it can't boot. I think it's NEDLL.DLL. So what i did was make a multi-boot and install XP all over and replace the file manually (because i've never had a recovery disk - any help on where to get/make one would be great). But my problem is that i've got really really really important data on the first broken partition, and i really need it back (2 GCSE worth of coursework = 4 years of work)

My question is is there a way to gain access to the first partition through my second partition, which is working fine.

Also is there anyway to recover Word and Excel (2007) documents that have become corrupt?

Not a good week so far

Thanks a lot

Oli

First and foremost lets turn this into a paralable and teach you a very import lesson. Always, and I mean always, back up your data!

Can you get a hold of an XP Pro disk? I know some ways to recover start up files from the recovery console, or does this system have that as a boot option? Often times, if there are restore partitions, you will be able to boot into the recovery console off that restore partition.

Yeah i know it's a lesson hard learnt, well the problem is i had all the data on my memory stick but that went corrupt, and as i was dragging the backup of that onto a new memory stick it crashed :/

I've got a XP Pro Disk that i used to install XP on the other partition, is that what you mean?

Thanks for the reply

Oli

Yes boot from it and go into the recovery console to repair your corrupted partition. Are you comfortable working from the command line?

All it says is

Please insert the disk labeled:
Windows Automated System Recovery Disk
into the floppy drive

I don't even have a floppy drive?!?

Number 3 of that document doesn't appear, it just goes straight to Windows XP Professional Setup?

Thanks

Number 3 doesn't appear on your disk? Are you using a retail copy?

Oh wait, you know what....now I recall MS removed the recovery console from some disks...because they are freaking retarded...

One sec using my google-Fu here...

Sounds like you gotta maybe download it and run it from floppies, which is gross

Thanks for all your help, but how am i going to run from a floppy if i don't have a floppy drive?

Cheers

You can't, it is one of the design flaws of Windows XP that it can only run boot disks and driver disks off a floppy from the Windows installer. Borrow a USB floppy if you can.
