Multimedia driver

I am having trouble with my multimedia driver. It seems I'm not able to play sounds; only system sounds. Please excuse me for not being capable of solving this on my own.

When trying to play music in winamp I get the following error message:

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078

When trying to play anything with music/sound, I hear nothing. Not all applications provide an error message, but I hope this one is somewhat helpful.

I have no idea where my installation CDs are. Is there anywhere I can find and download the driver I need? And what information about my computer do you need to be able to help me? Tell me and I'll post it as soon as possible.(Yes, I have seen questions 101)


Again I apologize for not knowing what I probably should have known.
 
I do believe it is an integrated sound card. MPU-401, can this be right? My computer tells me "unknown" for many of my drivers.

I'm sorry if this isn't the information you need. My computer skills are limited to Excel and macros :confused:

If you need drivers, try http://drivermagic.com and do a search there. They've got almost any driver you need (for free too!).

If you don't know exactly what drivers you need, go to http://driveragent.com and get a free scan. It'll tell you if you have any bad/outdated drivers and offer driver downloads (for a price). If you're like me who doesn't have the money to shell out, just copy and paste the name of the driver and do a search at drivermagic.com:P

By the way, the driveragent scan only works with Internet Explorer. Just make sure that you do a spyware scan after that so you can be sure that driveragent doesn't leave any (nasty) traces.

Side Note: I used IE to surf the net for 5 minutes, did an Adaware scan after, and came up with 5 critical objects:eek: That's why I'm always careful when using IE.
