Multiple CPU processing?

Hey all, I'm new to this forum.

I heard that you can run a tandem cable for multiple CPU processing for better performance. Is this true? I don't think there is such a thing. Can you guys confirm? I have a few old computers laying around and if I it is true, then I could save some money doing that instead of buying a new one.

One other question: is there a motherboard with multiple CPU slots?

i don't know what you're talking about when you say tandem cable. Anyways there are motherboards that support dual processors but they're quite expensive.

Yeah it's plenty possible, but it won't do what you are expecting. What you are thinking of is called clustering. It's great if you have to do rendering processing or other CPU intensive applications, but it won't do a single thing to improve day to day computing.

Eh, it's not too difficult. I had a beowulf cluster for some rendering projects and it wasn't all that hard to setup. The cluster consisted of 3 original xboxs, an old PIII and my main computer :P

I got a 1000mbs switch and connected it to all the computers via an ethernet cable. I installed linux on all the computers and then there was a little configuration but it's pretty easy. I used Open Mpi and that's it. Rendering times went from a couple days to less then a day :)
