Multiple Display question

What Hardware needed for Multiple Display?

I am interested in multi - monitor function in my future computer build. I just got done reading teh sticky post above and still have a question. I want to know what hardware ( choosing video card ) is necessary to have this ability - and have noticed both of my older Dell P4 PC's do not have dual monitor ability.

Looking at Video cards at Newegg - and I am having a difficult time recognizing if they are dual monitor capable - or not.

Some of the cards like this one for 60 bucks has 3 plug outputs - but I don't know if that means you can put a different screen in each plug type or not
14-125-260-TS

Others like this one for 129 has 3 ports
2 DVI ports
1 HDTV output

This one has a

14-102-824-TS

HDMI
CRT
DVI output

What specifically should I be looking at either in the specs - or otherwise that I would know a video card has ability for multiple monitors. I'd be looking at more of an entry level video card with 2 outputs - rather than a High End 200 dollar video card for 3D graphics.

Thanks

Most add-on graphics cards support two monitors these days. Usually one connects to the VGA port and one to the DVI port but this varies by model. If you are using modern monitors just connect them that way. If you have older models, then you can use a DVI-VGA adapter to connect one of the monitors.

Right now - I have a 17" CRT - a 15" flat screen and will probably be getting a new 22 or 24" LCD as my primary monitor when I'm up and running with new build.

I'd like to have 2 of that list as my multi monitor setup when all is said and done.

So you're saying - any of the 3 linked graphic cards would do the trick - but I may have to get some kindof adapter for one of the graphic outputs?

Yes, any of the three cards you listed would work for what you want to do. If the card you decide on only has DVI ports (like the GTS250 you have listed), you will need a DVI to VGA adapter for your CRT display. More than likely the card you get will come with that adapter.

Just so you are aware of what that adapter will look like (and if you need to purchase one):

....and a different model with a better view of both sides of the connector...
