Multiple .doc character count

Hello.

As in the title, I have multiple .doc files and I need to count how many characters (with spaces) are in them combined. So far I've failed to find a program that could do exactly what I need. Help anyone?

Certainly, but I'm not very eager to learn how to do that if there already is a simple solution. I don't know anything about scripting.

Hardly efficient, seeing as there are literally hundreds of them. Well, if no one has any ideas, I shall look around a bit more and then do it this way.

This was literally the first thing on google when I searched "multiple file doc count". Seems like it would work well.
