Multiple monitors on a PC

i decide to do a project for my school exhibition of connecting 3 monitors on a pc as an extended desktop and when i saw a few videos on youtube i was confident i could do it easily.
but when i connected the 3 monitors all came as clone and the primary monitor does not read the other monitors
i am not sure about the configuration of the computers there but they are not very good and the video card has only 1 vga port
i used a splitter

pls, i need help

If you use a splitter the exact same signal goes to all three.

There are lots of options for dual/triple display out of one card. As I recall the cheapest right now is a ATI 5830, Eyefinity will allow you to clone/extend the displays to customize the look.
 
since i couldn't buy a video card
i connected my laptop with an LCD monitor using a vga cable
the extended desktop works but how can i full screen a window in it
the configuration of my laptop is
INtel core 2duo p7350 @ 2 GHz
4GB ram
and i have windows 7 64bit installed
as well as UBUNTU 11.04
and XP proffesional
