I want to move my music collection to an external hard drive. Is it possible to install itunes on this hard drive as well rather than installing it on the pc and changin the directory where the music collection is, so i can plug my hard drive in and use away at it. Ive read somewhere about an aliased iTunes solution but ive an xp machine and need something to suit it.

I don't see why you couldn't, when your in the installer just click on the browse button then select where you want to install it.

If, say, the external HDD was attached you could install it to the external HDD but some files would be on your primary hard disk (registry entries included) so with most programs (i'mnot sure about ITunes) this will only work oon the PC you used to install Itunes with. If you went to another computer in the house and tried to run Itunes from the External but Itunes isnt installed on the PC itself, it will not work. It will not fond the registry files, or other files it might have used on your primary drive
