Music studio build...

My brother wants me to build an inexpensive computer for doing music recording on for under $400 (USD). What he needs now is fairly basic, but he may want to use two monitors in the future and possibly upgrade some other stuff.

So far I've got this:

Mobo: ASUS M3A78-CM
CPU: AMD 64 X2 5000+
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012
RAM: 2X 1GB Kingston 800
HD: WD Caviar 500GB 7200RPM 3.0GB/s SATA
DVD/CD Burner: LITE-ON 20X All DVD and CD formats Burner (nothing fancy as the computer isn't for CD production, but music recording)
OS: Windows XP Home 32Bit
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147112 (Yes, it's cheap, but according to the reviews it should work.)

What I'm not sure about is PSU. What would he have to do for the dual monitor setup and what PSU would have to get to enable him to do that? It'd be good if the PSU was under $40 USD. Thanks a ton!

EDIT: I found a PSU.

If he wants to do dual monitors than yeah he'll need to put a card in there.

I'm looking at PSU's now.

OK, the dual monitors is a future thing so the graphics card will be a future thing too, we just need to get a PSU with enough power to run a GPU that we get in the future. Thanks for checkin' it out.

Looks pretty good... is there any chance you could find one for under $40? If not I guess he'll probablly be fine with it, but a less expensive one would be nice.

That one's $25 after the rebate. I wouldn't recommend going much lower than that, you always want to make sure you have a good quality PSU, even if it means spending a bit more.

Your going to need an interface too, i use the Tascam US-144 and highly highly recommend it!

Yeah, he's got that all figured out. He's getting the Presonus Firestudio something or other and he's considering either Cakewalk Sonar 8 Producer or some version of Steinberg Cubase as far as software is concerned.

Good choice the Presonus is a great piece of hardware. Tell him I vote Cubase over Cakewalk any day :P

their both good software cubase is just a little more user friendly in my opinion. Ideally, he should get Pro tools if he has the cash to buy the hands down best.

I highly doubt you will find anyone that will dispute that after they have used it and some of the other programs on the market right now.
