Music Transfer

I just got a new MacBook. I really love it by the way, it has seriously changed my views on Windows. But with that aside, I need help.

I need a way to easily transfer my music from my PC to my Mac, I have a just above 1000 songs so I would rather not have to burn CD's or use a flash drive.

Is there anyway I can like connect them over my network, or connect them via an ethernet cable?

I can listen to all the music on my PC on my Mac by sharing my music library in iTunes, but I cant store the music on my HDD.

Something even better would be if there was a way for them to constantly be connected, so if I downloaded a new song on my PC. I could just easily put it on my Mac.

Thanks

pain in the butt...... but i did this:

(PC) moved itunes music folder to shared folder then in itunes update the location files folder.

(mac) then import in itunes choosing shared folder location as the source (if your 2 computers are networked).

(PC) then move the itunes music back to its original location and update again.

my sister moved every song 1 by 1 over msn (she is actually blonde).....thats another option

I understand what your suggesting. When something is in a shared folder on my network, will I be able to actually copy those files onto my Mac or just listen to them?

I did a file transfer via my network.

From a PC to Mac? How did you go about that?

Im using 10.4 so it may be a little different but i would guess the idea is the same.

On mac, go to system preferences --> Sharing
Click the services tab.
Check the box next to windows sharing (make sure it says Windows Sharing on)
At the bottom it tells you what to type in on your PC.

Go to pc, open my computer, in the bar where it says mycomputer (or whatever folder you have open), type what it told you to type :D
Its usually \\internal-ip-here\MacUsername
The internal ip is the mac's internal ip.
For example, my mac internal ip is 192.168.1.101. My username on the mac is Jake
I would type in \\192.168.1.101\Jake

(Still on pc)Then wait a second. A box pops up asknig for username and password. This is your username and password on the mac. enter the info and walla, you have acess to your mac files. Drag and drop your music.

:D Hope this helps.

Thanks epidemik! That really did help me out.

While your instructions didn't match up directly to mine, they still definitely helped a lot. I seem to be having one problem though.

After many attempts at connecting to my Mac, I have finally got it.

And on my PC it comes up with Connect to Jarret-2.local (the name of my Mac) then I type in the correct Username and Password and click ok.

It loads for a second then just goes right back to Connect to Jarret-2.local with my Username still there and my password selected.

I keep clicking OK, but the same thing continues to happen.

Any ideas?

I actually started to do it 1 by 1 too (I am also blonde) until my sister showed me there was an easier way.

dunno about your networking problem, but if you have a friend with 1GB USB stick or external USB hard drive just manually transfer. Or even an ipod as a mass storage device but im not sure if you lose files changing from pc to mac on the ipod.

I do have a 4GB flash drive, so that is always an option. But that really isn't my issue. I am constantly downloading new songs on my PC that I want on my Mac. So I don't want to have to use my flash drive to transfer over one song every time I get a new one.

I mean that is my last resort option, but something I would rather not get into.

I did this once the PC and Mac directly connected. I just googled it. I'm sure you can find something that will help you too.

Here is 3 options, you can decide what one you want to use.

1. Set up the network with both computers everytime to transfer. (both computers need to be turned on and manually moving files)

2. Use a USB stick everytime to tansfer. (both computers need to be turned on and manually moving files)

3. Just download the song directly onto your laptop like you do on the PC. (write down the songs then get them when you use the laptop)

If I setup a network won't it always be ready and connected when i need to go add a new song? I didn't think that I would have to re-setup the network every time I wanted to transfer a song.

If that is the case, I am just going to stick to using a USB stick to transfer.

i meant you have to turn both computers on and find the files......with USB u can drag and drop straight outta itunes
