My 4Ghz+ Project

I just oc'd my Intel Pentium D 930 from 3Ghz to 4Ghz, and i hope to get it higher. Here are some screenshots i have so far of some benchmarks (im going to be adding more as i run more tests):

Im running 3DMark06 right now, and i'll post the score in about 15 minutes.

Heres a screenshots from 3DMark06, i only ran the CPU test because my video card really brings down the score.

How much do those cost?
The Artic Silver 5 is $6, and the cooler was around $35. But that cooler is made specifically for LGA775 CPU's.

EDIT: There seems to be a problem with the motherboard, when i have the voltage raised to 1.5V+, the voltage regulators are pushing 90c. Im thinking thats why it crashes when i have the voltage raised so much.

Ouch... thats really hot. Chances are the sinks (if any at all) are atached with some thick crappy thermal adhesive or thermal tape... replace it if you can. Also keep in mind that its a 65 nm chip so 1.5 V is pretty high for it.

exactly my thoughts.
don't forget to run memtest to around 1500% to be sure, and dual prime95 for 24hrs at least.
i'd like to see some other benchmarks :D like a superiPi maybe
and some cpu temps! lol
lol too bad my processor's running slightly faster than an FX-60 right, i beat yours on both multimedia, and the second arithmetic... and the first arithmetic is very close...
my rams still faster tho lol, by 200-500mbps depending on where i have it. its ran stable for me at ddr532 before..
god i hate the limits that they put on pictures in this forum.. how did u get such high quality pics in here?

btw why are you running the outdated version of sisoftware? lol i believe they have a new "lite 2007" out.

My cpu temps are around 30C idle, and around 50C load. I am going to put some AS5 and see if that lowers the voltage regulator temps, or i may rig up some custom cooling system.

@fade2green, also note that my cpu was more than $100 cheaper.

And according to what you say, your memory is running very slowly. According to your unit of measure, my memory is running 52.9Gbps

I didnt know they had a new one, i'll look into getting that.

You suddenly make an Intel attractive to buy....:D
lol, it does perform quite well at 4Ghz, my cpu score in 3DMark06 and in SiSoft Sandra shows that it outperforms any of the X2 lines (with the exception of the 4800+ in a few tests).

It seems like 4Ghz is the max i can get. I tried to OC further but my computer wont load windows, even when i raise the voltage. I guess i should just leave it as it is, because the voltages were too high at 4.1Ghz. I think 4Ghz is still a very nice overclock.

50C is extremely high for 65nm... 64C is max for 65nm... that'd mean that 50C cuts cpu life a lot..
especially for an arctic cooling freezer... most people said that their cpu's never went over 50C in a full load... unless their idle temps were higher lol in which case they don't know what they're doing...
also, 1.5V is extremely high for 65nm as well. i'd be careful with that voltage up that high.
also, did you run dual prime for 24hours? lol
and memtest 1500%?

How high do you think AS 5 and a Thermaltake Big Typhoon would go on a 930?
depends on how well you apply it, and how you apply it.
if you took the IHS off the cpu, and lapped the heatsink down to a mirror finish, or around 2500-3000 grit you'd probably stay below 30C idle, and with a better fan, below 45C full load (yes at 4ghz)
And according to what you say, your memory is running very slowly. According to your unit of measure, my memory is running 52.9Gbps
what in the world?
what are you talking about?

also, omega.. what you're forgetting is that sisoftware isn't the only benchmark. i bet my processor would beat yours in almost any game out there at any quality (not to mention the video card lol). besides, i haven't even pushed my processor to the limit because i don't like my temp to go above 45C at any given point. i never got water cooling, instead i decided to try lapping the cpu IHS and heatsink (i may even remove the IHS to gain 5-10C) and so far ive gotten an extra 5-10C out of the 2500grit finish that i've achieved.
pentium D's are better at some things, and i customized my system for some multithreading and a lot of gaming.

you had to push yours to the same voltage as mine to get slightly below my performance... mine can handle a lot more voltage because its 90nm, 1.6-1.65V some have even reached 1.85V before (however unsafe and cuts the cpu life in like 1/8 lol, though they're running at like -20C in full load LOL)
90nm will create a bit more heat... but its also sturdier and can handle more heat (and more voltage)
