My BIOS doesn't recognize my DVD but my winXP does!

i got windows xp running, and a DVD rom installed and running as well .
i need to boot from my dvd (to install mandriva) , the problem is that i can't see my dvd in BIOS eventhough winxp recognizes it ,,
what to do

my comp:
HDD : 40 GB
CPU 1.5 GHZ
RAM : 256 MB
os : winxp sp2

Welcome to computer forums,

have you tried a different ide cable and location, (so if you are master try on slave. just to see if it will see anything)

Is this DVD the only drive on the cable, if not you probably have the jumpers set wrong. If it is the only drive on the cable you might have that IDE channel disabled in the bios.

No this does not sound weird. If your upgrading to another operating system (Ex - XP to Vista) just pop in the CD and click upgrade, or new install.
