I am trying to get ready for Battlefield 2 to come out and all I have is my Linux server and my laptop. My laptop has trouble with Battlefield 1942 so I know there is no chance for BF2 soo. I finally broke down and bought a new PC. So far I spent $660 and everything I bought is in my sig, other than those items I bought a $20 Antec 16x DVD drive, and a Logitech wireless keyboard/trackball mouse which cost me $30. I bought some crap ram though.. the Ultra 512mb PC3200 sticks cost me $30 each. I got an awesome deal on the x-connect 500w PS and case combo for $40, and the hard drive cost me $80. I was shopping for this system for almost a month because I was too cheap to pay for some of the stuff so I waited until killer deals came around. I went cheap on the motherboard and ram because I plan on getting a new board when DDR2 comes around in the AMD chipsets so believe me I know when you say I get what I pay for. I read reviews on the ram and they were mixed opinions but they were only $60 for the pair of 512 sticks and I only need it for 8-9 months then I will just throw it in my server when I'm through with it. I bought the MB/CPU/HS&Fan combo for 259 shipped and video card for 169 shipped. All items are brand new, no refurbs :)

Not bad for a complete tower ready for gaming at $660 for a complete tower/keyboard and mouse huh? I am using my 19" Nokia monitor I use with my server for now until I decide to buy my new system its own monitor.. and also using my old joystick.. I'm happy with the setup for what I paid.

DDR 2 wont come out for current amd processors because the memory controler is on die. They will have to come out with a new core first.

o damn, i misread that then... looks like my server will get a new MB/CPU/ram ;)

I got a free copy of HL2 with the MB/CPU combo, hopefully it will run CS at high settings with the stuff I have until the new stuff comes out... figure if it can run CS at full it will definately be able to run BF2 at decent settings. I'm still tinkerin with the setup right now, I'll start running benchmarks once I get everything straightened out. I was so tempted to get an SLI board but figured I'll do that next time because I know this MB is just temporary anyway. Hell it works out for the better though.. I'm going to have a badass linux server now, I am running an athlon 1.4 and a 256 chip of pc2700 with dual 160 GB HD's. What it has is great and I doubt I'll see any gains unless I wanted to run a CS server or somethin.. I just host a few web pages and use it as a pvr for now...

were you ogt your stuff from,i got 660 to spend and i would like to spend it like you.lol. i already bought a cheap system, and i think i dont want to invest no more in ti. please give me the link to were you bought those items, and ill greatly appreacieted.

i already started building my computer, and i got this "MB NFORCE2 7NIL1
/ CPU AMD|2500
and DDRAM PC-3700 512MBKINGMAX" already bought. i was also thinking on spending 660 more on it, by putting 512 more of ram, a 6600gt and a 120gig hard drive, .and the other stuff mouse,cause,keyboard,blah..SHOULD i bcontinue with the project, or should i buy what that guy on the top bought and finish his project, PLEASE COMMENTS< its(or will) my comp be remotelly close to his as in off speed, or am i making the biggest misktake on computer history.lol..

nevermind,if i let my self become a fanatic of computer parts, ill easyly spend 1000 on a computer, my pops gave me the money to buy the mobo, the cpu,and the ram,, all i need its the video card and the case, and the hd,and im set, with 300 ill solve that problem. thanks for your time, and all the games will show ,even if at 1fps,,hope i dont feel bad .DAMN

I got the MB/CPU/HS&Fan for a lil under 260 shipped from monarchcomputer.com and it came with Far Cry/HL2, also got my video card there for a little under 170 shipped.

the other items I got from various sites using motherofalldeals.com but it got shut down :( basically all I did was be a dork and checked it 3 times a day until the deal I couldnt pass up came along. I think by far the best buy I got was the case/power supply for $40. Best way is to check gotapex/bensbargains etc... u will find better deals than you will find on pricewatch a lot of the time... I got the majority of my stuff from tigerdirect, outpost, and monarchcomputer. I honestly got lucky and picked the right time to build a computer... only thing I didnt save as much as I could on was mb/cpu, I could have saved like another $5 buying from other stores seperately but I wanted the free copy of HL2 and Far Cry that is from some promotion they are having there on an amd 64 bit chip/MB combo... it's a pretty sweet deal
