Well, after lots of changing, this is what im going for:

3.2GHz Pentium 4 800Mhz 2MB Cache Skt 775
Asus P5P800 M/B
Thermaltake CL-P0092 Heatsink/Fan With Artic Silver compound
512MB Kingston, then Upgraded to Corsair 2GB Dual Channel
Maxtor 200GB SATA HDD
LG 16X52 DVD-ROM
NEC 16X16 DVD+/-RW
Mitsumi Floppy Drive
Point of View GeForce 6200A 256MB (AGP) then up to PNY Verto GeForce 6800 GT 256MB :D
eBuyer Black Case with Clear side Panel, 550W 30A Gold PSU With Blue and UV Cold Cathodes

What yall think? By the time in all done it should be costing around £800, but its only £380 before the 2GB RAM, 6800GT, PSU, Heatsink/Fan and other little bits.

sure u want to go with pentium 4?
They run hott, and are generally more expensive then their AMD conterparts

You can get the 6800GT in AGP can't you?
Anyway, ya, i'd go with AMD and PCI if i were you, but then again i don't know what all you want to do with this computer, so u might just want to go with pci and intel.

What are you going to use the system for?

PCI-E maybe, which is different than PCI. Remember that or you might end up giving someone bad advice. But AGP is not obsolete. There are still awesome AGP cards out there so don't be so swift to blow off AGP just yet.

well.. but he wont be able to upgrade to a 7800GTX then :P

anyway,. its a bit more that ive paid for it, but it still seems alright to me.

You can get motherboards that support PCI-E that aren't too pricey, and like Archangel said, once the 7800GTX comes down in price, you won't be able to upgrade to it without purchasing a new motherboard. And if you get a 754 socket mobo with an AGP slot, then you will have to upgrade the mobo and the processor. So if I were you I would get AMD w/939 socket and a PCI-E slot for future uprgades to continue longer.

The problem is price. I could afford a Pci-e Board, but i cant afford a Pci-e Graphics Card. Ill check the prices again and ill see if i can stretch to it. Im going to use the Intel because i do a lot of Photoshopping ect, so the Intel should be ok.

Well, maybe i can stretch to Pci-e. I can get a crap XFX Geforce 6600 128MB for £60, then a Asus P5GPL M/B for £52 (Only £12 more than the AGP Board)
Should this be ok?

what yall think?
1. id avoid both of those optical drives: CD/DVD 101 has some countersuggestions.
2. Whats the intetnion of the machine?

sure u want to go with pentium 4?

Newsflash: ah hell i give up, you should be able to extrapolate and figure out what this newsflash was gonna say.

<announcerVoice>In the first lane we have the 7800GTX going down in price .... in the other lane we have hell freezing over"</announcerVoice>

ROFL!!! :D The price has gotta come down eventually, I mean, when they come out with newer stuff.

Ya.....but the 6800U still hasn't come down in price has it?
and ya, praetor, u should more closely read what has already been said, i have been corrected on the p4 amd thingy......i guess i shoulda looked into pentium again before i said that....

Also, aren't NEC dvd drives pretty well built and stuff?

Actually im aware of that hence i didnt comment about the correction :) If you've not picked up on my posting style, i start at the top and reply to each and every single post (should i choose to) from top to bottom (hence its an annoyance when i do that for like 10 posts then realize i already replied at post 11 :P)

They are. Of course that applies specifically to their 3520+ models and is only a general statement :) Their pre-3500s had lots of "issues" and their 3500 was essentially their turning point

So, Helmie, are you going to get AMD? I have one and Photoshop works great with it, so I think you should go AMD. It's cheaper.

lol, i knew that.......but ya, i thought u were trying to correct me like which has already been done.
and i didn't pay attention to the model number, my bad.
