My build - good or bad?

I'm going to be building my own computer sometime this month or next month. Before I buy my parts, I want to know if everything is good and if there are any suggestions to make it better. My budget for this system is $1,100 including shipping and handling costs. My current build is $1,082 including those costs (TigerDirect taxes me because I'm in Illinois). I do web design. So I will be using this computer for my web design purposes, school, instant messenging, music, etc. I would like to run several programs at once without lag, too.

Case
I like this case. Lots of room for upgrades and cooling.

Power Supply
500 watts

Memory
2gb ram

Motherboard
CPU Processor
Video Card
Hard Drive - 250gb

I also need a surge suppressor. Found a good one here.

DVD Burner

The case comes with fans, but I also want to buy memory and hard drive fans.

I have a 19" monitor, so I don't need to buy one. I know I need an operating system, but I'll be getting that later.
Will this build work for me? What suggestions can you guys make?
 
hey it looks like a good build, i would get G. skill ddr2 800 2gb ram from newegg and its like 104.99

also the video card isnt as good as the geforce 7 series ones. if you were to get a dx10 card get something better than that.

The mobo rocks i have one in my build.

What's wrong with my current PSU? Even though the other one has 600 watts, the one that I have now is SLI ready and has more SATA connectors.

You say 7600 GT instead? I don't know much about video cards, so I have no idea what that means, but I'm going to trust you. Here is one I found that looks better. I'll finally be able to test out the DVI cable that came with my monitor. :)
 
I would go with a DX10 card, will be much more future proof even if it costs more. An 8800gts 320mb would suit the rest of teh system well or 8600gt if you cant afford it

I'm not sure if your referring to the ds3 or s3's,but i'll talk about the ds3. The ds3 only supports 1333fsb on revision 1.3 and 3.3. You can buy 1.3 on newegg, but they supposedly don't overclock as well. I'd say get the DS3 from newegg, but your not guaranteed to get the rev. 3.3. I talked to a newegg person about this because I wanted a mobo that supported 1333FSB and they told me they can't guarantee revisions. That's why your better off to just get the ds4.
 
Well, if I do go with the DS4 motherboard, what would you guys recommend for RAM? Looks like the DS4 supports 667MHz while I right now have 800MHz. I did some research, but with all the choices out there, I wouldn't know which one would be the best.

I never noticed that about the ds4, but if you look at the reviews on neweggs website, there's people saying they've put ddr800 ram on the board without a problem so you should be fine.
 
What about this mb

It has support for DDR3 1066/800 and DDR2 1066/800/667 and 1333 FSB. And P35.

I am thinking about this one myself for my first ever rig.
