My case-fan mod

I bought a $40 case + psu bundle, and the air flow is a little poor.
So I turned it into one of those open-air skeleton-type cases.

Here are some snapshots:

Love those cable ties.

It's a mini-micro case. It has sooo little room. The fan of the graphics
card is squished against the bottom. So instead of a vertical case,
I'm going to turn it into a permanent horizontal-case. I plan to add
some air-flow here:

I'm actually going to put the side-panel back on, but I will have to cut the
fan guard that is currently there. It absolutely chokes the fan. And I
am planning to add another fan there as well. I need to get the
tools and supplies first.

For those who have modified a case, how do you suggest getting rid
of the sharp edges - sanding? I read something along the lines of
wax - what type, and how do you apply it?

Cheers. :D

Thanks funkysnair :D

If I do use it as a horizontal-case, should I add some legs
from the new bottom? What do you think I should use for
that?

whatever floats your boat, if you want legs, put them on. and if you want more airflow to the bottem of the case, just cut a couple 120mm holes on the bottem, and put some fans there(fans aren't even needed to be honest, just put some fan guards over the holes). as per the sanding of the case, not really sure if that'll help or not, otherwise get some rubber "U" channel(something along those lines) to put over the sharp corners

I can't find any fan grills for sale in Ottawa. I looked on the
internet and the shipping cost is crazy.

The shipping is almost triple the initial cost!!

Great plan that you're doing but just one problem really. I know guys that also modded their cases and took panels off to increase airflow, it worked great for them. The only problem was the amount of dust/dirt that got into the case. They said the fans practically pull dirt in and it sticks. (If you have pets expect hair to get in too). If you cant get some grills to prevent that it'll be great. Nice looking rig :)

lol, You could have just got a big house fan and aimed it at the side of the case if you removed the panels so the air would flow through? Im only joking though it wod prob work!

You could put your case on small legs, put a 120mm fan grill and fan on the bottom of the case for your GPU. Much better temps, which means better performance. Make sure the fan is blowing air into the computer not out of it. put a fan on the top or side to blow air out of the pc.
