My CD/DVD drive is working but not working

I got a laptop from a friend and had the Hitachi Gd-S200 DVD ROM with it too. After a couple of weeks, the computer recoqnised the drive connected to the computer, but it didn't play any sort of CD's. I have been searching everywhere for it, but haven't found any good suppliers/ second hand ones. If you can also help me fix this problem, it will be appreciated,

You could clean the drive's laser,it might help.If you can't find a new one that fits to your laptop,you could get an external one.
 
Is your DVD drive functional? For example, like it is trying to attempt and read the discs you put in, but just not being able to read them? When you say CD'S, do you strictly mean just CD's, or do DVD's not work also? Also, what brand of laptop is it, it could help in helping you find another one if that is the route you need to take; however, it would be easier, as said by starcab to get an external if this is the route you need to take.
