My Comp/Need Suggestions

Ok my parents have been buying my computers for me for last 5 years and I'm tempted to try and build a computer by myself, cause usually the computers they buy for me have tons of problems. Currently all I'm doing with my computer is playing games but I also do other things with photoshop, moviemaker, etc. But i have all i need for that. Currently I'm playing WoW and Company of Heroes, they work fine but to my surprise Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat ping at around 300 and are unplayable.

Motherboard: ASUS P4S8X-X
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.50GHz
Video Card:NVidia GeForce 6600
Memory: 768 MB RAM
Disk Drives: Maxtor 6Y060P0 60GB and ST38641A 8GB

Just wondering what I can keep and what I can buy, I'm willing to put in $300 of my own money and rest ill try to pull out of my parents.
 
Ditch the Motherboard, CPU, Memory, Video card, and Harddrives. In other words, the whole thing. *The only thing you might be able to keep is the 6600, though that might be a stretch. How much are you parent's putting towards it?
 
They dont want to put forward much cause they think the computer is good and I'm trying to convince them that it is not. And you've made a point that it is not, id estimate they are puting in 500-700 if you can work with that.
