My Computer Build for less than $1000

You won't need more than 4GB. If you end up with an i7-930 then you'll want 6 as the i7-930
is tri channel and operates best with Ram that's in multiples of 3.

Okay back to an i7 930 build...

How does this sound?

BUILD
Graphics: GTX460 768MB - $199.99
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 ATX - 199.99
Memory: 6GB OCZ Technology Gold XTC DDR3-1600 (3-2GB) -129.99
Case: AZZA Orion 201 mid Tower Case - 44.99
Hard Drive: Wester Digital 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0GB 3.5"-99.99
PSU: Cooler Master Extreme 700W ATX -69.99 (i have no idea if this is the right W, is it?)
DVD Burner: Sony AD-7260S 24x - 19.99
Processor: Intel i7-930 - 199.99

Total = $1014.92

Any improvements/suggestions? or any ways to cut some cost?

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

I would recommend this HDD, it's meant to be one of the best on test and is $25 cheaper.

Instead of a 768mb video card I would get a 1GB Palit NE5X460HF1102 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Sonic Platinum Overclocking Edition 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Not necessarily this version of the card.

The build ends up $25 more expensive unless you could cut down anywhere else?

By the way I'm not the most experienced here so you might get better advice off someone else, I'm just going with what I know. =)

Changed plans to this so far
Graphics: (1) GTX460 1GB (May update to 2nd down the road)
Motherboard: Rampage III Gene
Processor: Intel i7-930

The Gene looks like a good choice, plus it's mATX so you can either go with a full ATX case and get better airflow, and more space, or get a mATX case and fit your desktop in pretty much anywhere :P
Though personally I would go ATX case.

900

I'd suggest against a microatx board if you want to SLI in the future, as you will be using all of your available expansion slots if you want to add an audio card, tv tuner, etc in the future.

For the price, its hard to beat this board:

Set on this:
Mobo - $229.99: ASUS P6X58D-E
GPU - $110: MSI GTX 460
CPU - $199.99: i7 930
RAM - $134.99: 6GB G.Skill
Windows 7

Need Recommendations on this stuff:
CD/DVD burner/player
Case
Power supply
Hard Drive

Looks good so far. If it's not a media system them a cheap CD/DVD SATA burner will do fine - this one should be OK. Case, it's only about features and build quality to a certain extent, after that it's personal preference. Here are some recommended cases:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119230 Pricey, but runs very cool and a favourite amongst gamers. Or get the 922

or

or to spend a little less:
The Antec 300 is very good. Silverstone are also well-built, I find.

Power Supply: Anything 650W+ from reputable manufacturer will be fine. Try Corsair, SeaSonic, Antec, PC power and cooling, Enermax, Thermaltake, etc.

Hard Drive, I would definitely recommend This.

Found my Mobo in a combo with antec 900 case... so i'm going to get that....
And by Ram packaged with a 750 W Power supply

So far:

Mobo/Case - $309.94: ASUS P6X58D-E/Antec 900 case
GPU - $110: MSI GTX 460
CPU - $199.99: i7 930
RAM/Power Supply - $234.94: 6GB G.Skill/Antec 750W
Windows 7

- The Mobo supports Sata 6G/b, so should I get a HD that is 6, not this one?

i'd still just go with a regular 3gb/s hdd. you won't see any gaming improvements other than load times. if you really want to get better load times/data transfers get an ssd.

the build looks good :good:

Yeah, I'll probably just get a 3 gb/s then. Maybe only 500GB. I really don't think I will use 1 TB considering I'm only useing 30GB now.

Another question...
Should I buy a OEM version of windows?

No reason NOT to buy an OEM version, unless you plan on changing motherboards in the near future. The only difference between OEM and Retail is that 1: You don't have MS's tech support...big whup... and 2: you can't move the OS to another motherboard without violating the EULA. They're pretty lenient on that, though, so if you decide to upgrade it's possible that you can just do it over the phone.
