My Computer Freezes

need a bit more detail does it require reboot to un freeze it or what, but it could be ram, hdd maybe just the windows installation

its most likely the ram. try taking one stick out and seeing how it works. if it still freezes, test the other stick alone as well. If those do not work, its the processor.
DO you use this troubleshooting with all PC's? If so I feel sorry for ya.
It can be other things, software and a dying HDD comes to mind.

no. i have had this problem several times and my ram was bad. if a hard drive were to die, you would hear loud clicking, it wouldn't necessarily freeze up. Also, software usually doesn't really freeze a pc for too long 30 seconds at the most. if it's the software then its some really poorly made unstable software. dont feel sry bc i have more experience than you.
Its a Pc i think its a custom pc because i got it from ebay and its complete fresh with no operating system no sony or dell or anything i think they built it:

No Operating System, did you install XP after you got it? If so did you update all the drivers?
Not always. Sometimes they die without warning for unknown reasons. Sometimes they die with warning (slower performance, etc.), again for unknown reasons. You fail.
Ahhh, the teenage ego. Truth be told, bad RAM is not the end-all solution to figuring out a slow system. It's often a useful troubleshooting tool, but usually not the very first thing others would check for every problem. Also, truth be told, a lot of people who aren't too-familiar with computers are uncomfortable with pulling out components, especially as something as fragile as RAM that can only go in one-way, is easy to snap/crack, and requires the use of 'gentle force' to re-insert.
To the OP, I'd try what others have mentioned before pulling stuff out of your case. Updates from Windows Update and using Hardware Manager to make sure all drivers are current is a good starting point. After that, schedule a full Disk Check upon the next startup, and then Defragment the HDD (it could just be supoer cluttered).
thank you everyone but i am going to install a fresh windows xp on to my computer but before i do that can anyone give mi any advise on what i should do to make it all good after i install windows xp and what frivers should i install please help me i dont want this to happen anymore. I decided to install a fresh windows xp professional on to my computer because when i try to copy video files from my new digital camcorder it always freeze my computer so please tell me what to do.

Did you reformat before each install? If you didn't something could be building up & slowing your comp down... this is purely a guess.
My first thought too upon reading Posts 11&12.
During the XP Setup area, you'll have the chance to format the HDD - do it! If you kept on installing without formatting in the past, you've just found the problem
With a format, all info on the HDD will be wiped away and a clean installation really will be 'clean'.After you format and install Windows (its a very self-explanatory process with on-screen instructions at each step to tell you what to do and what the computer is doing afterwards), you will need to install your MoBo drivers (did the person you purchased it from include the MoBo CD?). If they did, then all is good, if not, you would have to see if they could ship it to you ASAP, or find out your MoBo model, download drivers at another computer and burnt them to CD to install on the new one.
Assuming you have the driver problem taken care of, after that you will need to make sure everything is updated and reinstall your software. My personal preference for taking care of that is this;
1 - Install Virus protection
2 - Install Firefox
3 - Visit Windows Update and let it go to town until finished (takes a few trips to the WU site due to some restarts)

I'll bet the CD you have is the one with the drivers on it for your motherboard. If you have another working computer, you can put it in the CD drive and browse through it. If it tries to auto-launch on that system and says it's the wrong hardware, then you should be good-to-go on the system you just bought. When windows is installed, it will have very basic, generic drivers so you can use the basic hardware (mouse, keyboard, monitor), so even if you don't have the specific drivers available, you can still use a basic OS. The driver CD that comes with the motherboard will have all the USB 2.0, chipset, LAN, etc.
Regarding torrents, I can't help you with that one, I'm afraid.

Like said above if you have the driver CD that came with it install them after you install windows, if its not the driver CD just let us know the make and model of the motherboard/video card and so on and we can find the drivers. And by the way this time when you install windows, delete the partition- create a new one- format and do a clean install.
