well guys I need help, my computer is killing me. Last August I installed a fan and a video card (dont know if that matter)..Later like in August the power went out a couple of times for like 3 minutes at a time and I don't have surge protector only a regular power strip. No when I try turning the computer on the computer the monitor is just blank. The computer starts but the monitor is just there, the green light turns to orange and nothing ever shows up. I have a live disk of Ubuntu and booted with the disc in the cd tray thinking it was the OS but not even the cd boots up..what might be the problem? - thanx in advance
Probably a bad power supply. I'd try that first. But it also could be bad RAM, a bad motherboard, or other random things... About the only way to diagnose a machine like that is to start trying things. Removing parts and seeing if it'll work with next to nothing.
well i got one of those blue screens with a bunch of shit on it "dumping physical memory" and after that the monitor hasn't been working...maybe that might help miniaturize the problem since I didn't mention it earlier. Well if its a bad power supply, would the tower turn on except the monitor?
last thing id try is a the psu, if the pc is turning on, are u using agp, pci, or pci-e, or onboard, if a card try changin it, then change ram if that dont work, then try psu, or mobo
The_Other_One is probably right, either bad power supply, or RAM...etc etc. It could be any number of things. Is the computer actually turning on? And it's just not showing up on the monitor? Or what?
The best way is to narrow down your suspects, first test your graphics card ram and cpu first in another system. It would be best if you have another system to test your components on. If not, you are just guess and checking, if you are going to buy a new PSU or some other component.
like I said the tower turns on and the monitor is ok at the beginning. It looks like if its gonna turn on but then the green light on the monitor turns orange and nothing ever appears on the screen. Well im gonna have to start testing all that stuff. Thanx for the help everyone
I have never encountered such a problem before, that's why its really hard to find a solution remotely without seeing and touching the components physically.
Oh it can drive you crazy, a computer can drive you to the brink of sanity. I have had one of those days before, its not very pleasant to say the least.
