I don't know what I can do to help this. I have a heatsink properly installed with a paper thin layer of thermal grease. I originally had too much on and I was getting temperature readings of 99-100c and CPU Overheat Error/shutdown. Now that I have removed some to the correct level I am sitting at 64 and slowly rising up to 68 and that's when I turn it off. Is it possible that I still have too much on? I was able to update the BIOS before all this started happening. I had no shutdowns prior to installing the CD/DVD burner although I wasn't checking the temperature at that point and I don't know if that could affect temp. readings like that.

are you putting the cooler on properly? has all 4 clips snapped in? you might have also put too much thermal paste on.

put a small amount of AS5 in a horiontal line in the middle of your Quad and dont spread it,let the heatsink do the sperading.

should I remove all thermal paste and retry again?

and should I remove the processor before I remove the thermal paste? or is using a Qtip with alcohol sufficient?

ok I removed and re-applied and now it is running consistently at 50c in bios. is this too high or does this sound normal?

You know how mobile homes have the heat/ac vents in the floor? Well, if you have a mobile home, place the computer near the ac vents and run the ac.
I do this all the time.

^^ That is still a little high. Im running around 30 on a stock cooler

Don't forget he's go two more cores that you, that both produce heat.

But, Yeah... That it a little too high. Do you have good airflow in your case?

Can you get a picture of the amount of Thermal Paste you're putting on?
