I have posted before a long whiel ago ,

I have a Monarch Computer that was cutom built according to what I wanted to put in it ,

When I first got the computer, the computer worked great for 2 years, and it is still running great, however I just now its not as fast as it usually is , or was.

I have downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy , and it shows that I have no spyware, and I have run Ad Aware as well .

I have 165 gb hardrive left of 232 gb total.
I have 1 gb of ram
It has a Intel Pentium 4 2.8 ghz -- Myabe it would help if i got something better
radeon 9200 Pro Family

and 2 nec dvd burners

The main problem is , is that the internet browsing is slow , I have a Fast Internet connection thru my cable company ,

The computer is alow slower , when doing the same stuff such as (Encoding movies, clips, or movie trailers) when compared to doing that same stuff on my Toshiba laptop , which is the model a Satellite m45 s2692 systrem

for example I encoded the same clip on both comptuers , started at the same time, and within an hour , the toshiba laptop was already at 70 percent where as my desktop , was only at 40

I know that my toshiba has a centrino processor , or at least i think , ?

im not sure thats why i posted the model number up

Also , I have noticed that as far as download speed on the desktop its fine , however its slow response as to when i open a new browser or webpage, I mean with this fast internet connectin pages are pretty much suppossed to load right away , and I usually have to wait like 3-5 seconds for the page to even start loading , whne opening a new broswer

Could you guys maybe give me a pointer as to whats wrong

or what I need to do , to get the response time faster

I have also noticed that when it really slows down , I hit crtl alt delete , to look at the task manager , and alot of times when its slow like ive mentiond, the CPU usage is like at 100 , and I dont even know why , cause half the time I have no programs running.

thanks in advance

kirtis

k

update

thats like right now

all im doing on my computer right now , is talking to a friend on msn messenger
and downloading a movie trailer off of yahoo movie trailers, which is an hd movie trailer

and my cpu usage is 100 and my computer is slow , if i try to go to a new page it takes 12-20 secodns to laod , and I have fast internet, so something isnt right

i would download superantispyware, and run that, its a good program.
do you have alot of browser add on's? b/c some of them will also slow down
your internet performance, go to to tools> manage add ons and disable them
and see if theres any diference

hey , the add on th ing helped as far as browsing goes

application tme from when i click something , to when it actually starts though is still slow

thanks marx91

Have you ever defragged your hard drive? How about cleaning out your cache files?

Both of those things need to be done once a month or so. You would be very surprised to find out how not doing that can really slow you down.

;) I think its all that marinesoftware you are running, try using some armysoftware and it will get the job done faster! ;)

Clear your - History, files, and cookies.... IE > Tools > Internet Options
Disk Cleanup - Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools
Defragment - Same steps as above.

If you want to regain its performance back , I suggest an reformat.

hey again ,

I reformated already once.

worked fine for awhile

yes I have defraged it , 3 times in the past month ,

i have never doen teh cache thing

I have cccleaner on my computer, so it deletes my history , cookies, ect.

Have you ran Ccleaner registry cleaner? Very important, Many leftover entries can slow down ones computer a considerable amount. You could also use an alternate like Eusings free registry cleaner, as it has the tendency to pick out those entries Ccleaner leaves behind.

Ccleaner takes care of cache as far as I know.

if you have done everything and it still slow, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to the Processes tab and look out for any processes that utilizes a big part of the CPU (90 or 99 in the CPU column).
Look for the name of the process if any and post back here.

I had the same problem last time with my SpywareTerminator where it keep scanning endlessly and taking up 99% of the CPU hence lagging the whole thing.

See if this helps.

yeh, it may well be a background process of some kind, or to manythings running on startup, broken registry keys etc.

hi

hi yes , system idel process is like going from 80 - 99 constantly

I dont know what to do , I guess I will have to resort to reformatting again ,

i hate doing that thoug , cause then i got to get all my programs i need back on

If System Idle Process is the one going 80 - 99, it shouldn't lag your computer...

try downloading CCleaner and run it... there is a possibility that your computer is bogged down by temporary files and leftover entries as hermeslyre said in his suggestion above... so definitely try that out before you do any reformatting to save you the hassle...
