my computer is slow...

now i dont remember if this happened last time or not, but i had to do a reinstall of xp home yesterday cause i installed some program and gave me the Blue screen... So i re-installed xp home, but everything starts slowly, it takes longer then usual to open a program (ie, internet explorer, my documents, ect). But when i ran 3dmark03, i got a score of 4032 which was 35 points higher then before.

So then i got all the updates from microsoft, ad-aware, norton, ect, and it still responds slow. Games work fine, its just clicking on the start menu, using ie, ect. i ran norton and ad-aware and found zero problem, and i also ran disk cleanup, defragmentor, and scanned the disk for errors. Anyone else have any ideas?

do a ctrl alt delete and find out what processes are running and which ones are taking up the cpu. are u running a p2p program if you are that is what takes up most of cpu. if not you will see what processes are using the most of the cpu.

its weird, the cpu usage is around 2-10%, but once i click on the start menu or something it jumpts from around 90-100%, then once it loads, the cpu goes back down to around 5%. And no p2p programs.

actually, just out of the blue it started working right... weird. I didnt do anything to it, but im not complaining :)

Norton isn't the best option for performance minded people.

But if you feel like it you could always tweak your machine to make it perform it's best, have a look at my site and the os tweak guide you'll find there.

Goes to show how valuable 3dmark is
