My Computer is the Suxor with Joint Operations

but why?

Here are my stats:
3.0 P4 w/ HT
1.5 Gigs of ram
Ati 9600XT Video Card
built in sound

Now here's a link to my motherboard, I bought the cheapest one I could use with a 3.0, basically, so this may actually be my issue:

Now, I have download Fraps to check my framerate. On Joint Operations, I run at 1-2, sometimes 3 if i'm lucky. This is crazy. It can go up to about 8 at highest, which is even more absurd.
My internet connection is a 10 mb down and up... so that's not an issue.

My computer seems to run Counter-Strike extremely well, although the framerate is an average of about 17ish. It also runs Half Life 2 damn well, an occasional little stop, but otherwise it's fine. This is known as the 'sound' problem tho, so that's not really an issue from the PC itself, it's some kind of programming error. It runs the Doom 3 demo ok as well, I have yet to check the frame rate.

I have done disk defragmentation, moved my virtual memory to another drive, as well as gotten the optimized drivers for my graphics card and done disc clean up, even though when i got JO, I didn't have mcuh on here becuase I just re-formatted.

EDIT:
i should probably mention that I am considering buying these instead:

but is that going to help me at all? And is tha ta good motherboard? (I may post this question in the motherboards section later :))

Thanks alot. for a reference, I have another thread on gamefaqs.com related to this topic:

1. Its an ASRock board. Bad sign
2. It's running a PT880 chipset. Another bad sign.

What are your settings?

I wouldnt consider 17 "extremely well" and are we talking about the new CS?

Ok so you are talking about the new CS.... but let's get some numbers so we know what we're dealing with since "well" is a highly subjective term

Video card is a nice buy, depending on the prices you may want to consider the 6800GT which is the rough equivalent: go with the cheaper of the two. As for the mobo, dont get that model since it has onboard video and thats just an added expense you dont need since you're getting a video card. Realistically, i'd buy the mobo first and then the videocard second.

These motherboards are cheaper and prolly more useful to you
P5GD1
P5GDC Deluxe

thanks a ton :)

I'll look into those boards. My settings on JO are set to MINIMAL :(

I did mean Counter Strike Source... yes.

I'll get some frame rates from HL2 and the Doom 3 demo later on today.

really appreciate the help :)

OOHHH :)

Omega Drivers V. 2.6.12

i just got done playing World of Warcraft for about six hours. Not a whole lot of issues there. Granted the frame rate still isnt' optimal, and once in a while it does dip down to about 5, but it ran at approx. 20 with alot of action and all the way up to 35 when i was just running around.

Ok... so whats the average framerate? (i.e.., a useful number)
