My computer keeps on rebooting

Hi,
For the past couple of days my computer only reboots itself, it goes as far as the windows log on screen and then the reboot process starts again. Has anyone experienced this before or what can I do to fix this problem.
Thankyou

I'm afraid you have some sort of virus or worse. You should probably reformat the entire hard drive and start from scratch... If you can get on for a few minutes you might have time to back up your important files if you can get on that is.

I had a friends laptop that would do the same exact thing I just formated the hard drive but remember when you do that you lose all of your files so if you want to save files take out the hard drive and plug it into another pc or get a enclosure and save only your important files and then reformat

Good advice... except the virus part. I have never encountered a virus that could restart your computer.

Now, back on topic. Go to www.google.com and google in Memtest86. Download it, burn it onto a CD, and run it overnight.

Yeah. Could be hardware . Try some stuff before an auto-reboot. memtest is a good start. Could be other things too, like psu.

Try a bootable linux distro and see how that runs, etc...

It's a bit of a noob thing to reformat at the first sign of trouble btw ;)

Even if it is windows cracked up I would try a repair install first... You can think about the virus thing later ;)

Worse than a virus? Interesting :)
