PLEASE READ I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Hello,
I tried to build my computer...and i had everything conncted cpu(intel Pentium D W/fan), HDD, MOBO (abit fatal1ty) Graphics Card (ATI Radeon x1650pro 512mb) Power supply (500W) DVD ROM (samsung Spinpoint) i connected all them, then flicked the power supply.
The Fans started going the the case lit up with the leds, but, the screen was blank and after 10 seconds the computer turned itself off.
I disconnected all the components except the mobo, cpu, graphics card, powersupply. Then i turned on the powerunit and this time the bios menu came up, but after a few seconds the power went again.
Iv checked all the wires countless amount of times but no luck. I badly need help. Wat could be the problem, is the motherboard Falty?

just tested that theory...

without RAM the computer wont pass POST and will subsequently not go to the CMOS screen. Mine just gave a blank screen with a loud error beep from the motherboard.

Ram

oh sorry, yes i have a ram in the motherboard... Crucial 1gb PC4200, and that defo works perfectly. tried it out on my friend computer.

1. Overheating - You forgot to apply thermal paste or your CPU cooler is not clipped on the right way. Or you don't have one at all. (Just kidding)

2. Power Supply - Your power supply is not sufficient enough for your system, or your power supply is faulty.

3. Shorting - Your computer motherboard is touching the case, causing shorting and automatic shutoffs.

4. Faulty motherboard - Your motherboard is faulty, therefore causing automatic shutdowns.

5. CPU Cooler - Your CPU fan is not working right. In some computer motherboards, if the CPU FAN is not spinning at a certain RPM, the computer will shut it self off to prevent overheating.

The Pentium D stock fans have thermal pads on them, so you don't have to apply thermal paste yourself.
Power supply can be at fault
Regarding shorting, if that is true, the system will not turn on for 10 secs, it will just refuse to start up, nothing will spin up.

I think you need to reseat everything and see if that works, if it doesn't then, I think you will have the painstaking job if testing each component until you find the faulty one.

He did not say he had a stock fan, so were just guesstimating there.

Shorting, in my experience with an AMD Sempron 2600+, it turned on for 5-6 seconds, then turned off. Thats my personal experience. Everyone's experience is different, thats why I listed many causes.
