my computer will not turn on Please help!

okay last night i turned my computer off before i went to bed, I went to the start button clicked on shutdown then clicked on shut down from the menu that gives the options to restart hibernate or shut down. after that i turned off my monitor, and speakers. then went to sleep. When i woke up this morning I found that there was a bad storm and the electricity had gone out in my house. It just came back on a couple minutes ago and i tried to start my computer but it wont even turn on. the monitor, speakers, and my internet router work just fine. but my tower will not turn on. Can anyone help please?!
 
Fuse in the power lead or even worse fuse in the PSU blown!? Start off by trying a different power lead for your tower.
 
try hitting the switch on the power supply off then back on

if that don't work try to unplug the power cord and plug back in agian
 
i tried changing the cord, and unplugging then hitting the power button a few times then plugging it back in, and neither worked.

altdragonz, what did you mean by flipping the switch on the power supply? forgive me if it's an obvious question, but i dont see a switch near the power supply besides the one that changes from 115v to 230v.
 
Do you have a spare Power Supply that you'd be able to try?

With regards to the switch, I think he meant the switch that turns the PSU on and off. ;)
 
i just tried, and the other power supply i have doesnt have all the same hookups that my newer computer has. any other ideas?
 
It's is obvious that the power supply is bad!Get a new one,your lucky if it is the PSU and not the motherboard.:( I had a similar incident on my mom's pc,but it was the motherboard that got fried :(
 
i've been browsing newegg for the past couple minutes looking for power supplies, is there anything i need to know when buying one? I've never bought one. Will any power supply have enough connectors for me? I have two dvd burners, and two hard drives, thats the only thing i need extra connectors for? Thanks a bunch for the help!
 
my computer is a compaq presario with a 2.13 GHz amd processor. 996mb(i believe, should be close to 1 gig) of ram, 1 80 gig hard drive, 1 180gig hard drive. then two dvd burners. the power supply in the computer is a bestec, it says that the output max of teh power supply is 250W
