Im going to sell an old Dell that I have and i needed to know what steps to take before I sold it. Should I erase the hardrive? I need some help before I sell this thing, need help erasing all MY info.

(dont want my personal info in someones hands)

Save everything you want to save, then before you start your computer put in your winxp cd... and follow the insctructions.. yes you want to reformat the drive.

If it is for a business or VERY valuable information you may want to buy a new hd, as there are was of retrieveing deleted info.

The one im selling is running on windows 98, but basically I just find the uninstall cd?

Would that be the same as uninstalling windows?

It would be re-installing windows.. Basically delete one, then put an new copy where the old one was.

Reinstalling or simple formating is not really the most secure method.

Trythis:

Active@ Kill Disk is a powerful and compact DOS utility that allows you to destroy all data on hard and floppy drives completely, excluding any possibility of future recovery of deleted files and folders. If you use FDISK, FORMAT utilities, or DELETE standard operating system command for data removal, there is always a chance to recover them and use against owner s will. The program conforms to US Department of Defense clearing and sanitizing standard DoD 5220.22-M. Active KillDisk works with any computer, that is capable of booting into DOS mode from a floppy drive. It uses access to the drives data on a physical level via BIOS bypassing logical drive structure organization, thus it does not matter what operating systems and file systems are used on the machine. To use the software, simply copy it to a bootable floppy and insert it when you boot - do not try this unless you want to wipe your drive! An optional Pro version is available with even greater destruction levels.
