Pentium 1@133MHz, 16MB RAM, 1.2GB HD, CD-ROM, integrated S3 graphics with 1MB video RAM, low-end SB soundcard.
In 1997, US$2,867.
The 14" matching Digital monitor was US$750.
Total: US$3,617, and you still hadn't bought Win95, any software apps, keyboard, mouse, speakers... This was considered a BUDGET system just 9 years ago. That's $4,300 in today's money.
I have an old PC World magazine from 1996. The prices were insane for rigs that wouldn't even be considered worthy of being doorstops now... and any old-timer will tell you that RAM sticks were so expensive that they had to be insured against theft.
