My Desktop Gets Stuck on start-up?!

Hello,
I have a custom built desktop tower with windows XP as a OS but when i turn it on it looks normal but then it goes onto the start-up screen with the windows logo and the loading bar under it and it just keeps loading please help!:confused:
 
Can you boot into Safe Mode? (When the computer boots up, keep tapping F8 until you get a menu, and choose Safe Mode)

If you are able to boot into Safe Mode, then it is likely a startup process that is keeping you from booting in Normal Mode. I would go to Start-->Run--> type 'msconfig' and then disable everything under Startup and under Services after checking "Hide All Microsoft Services. Then reboot and see if it starts in normal mode. Post back here after you try this and we'll give you further instructions to make sure your computer is free of malware and to be sure it is configured for optimal performance. ;)
 
I done that but it comes up with lots of things like (milti(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)/System32) and thn gets stuck there :/
 
Hrmmm... OK. Well, your OS may need to be repaired, or you may be experiencing hardware failure.

First of all, do you have any important data on the drive that you need to back-up? And another computer to back it up on?
 
Ok - great!

Now some questions:

- Have you recently added any new hardware or software that may have caused this to happen?

- Did this happen all of a sudden, or has the computer been acting funny for a while now?

- Have you tried booting with everything disconnected from the computer except the monitor and the keyboard?

- Do you have a Windows XP CD? Product Key? Or a recovery partition?

- Do you have a second computer w/ a CD-RW drive and some CD-Rs?

I would download and burn Ultimate Boot CD and use one of the utilities to scan your hard drive for errors, then report back here and let us know. ;)
 
I did download something before it went bad witch may off done something:/

No i have just give my CD back to a relative
yes i have a laptop with a CD/RW
 
OK - download the UBCD iso from the link above and burn it with your laptop (I prefer imgburn). Then boot your computer using the CD and scan your drive(s) so that we may be sure they are not failing. If the drives are OK, then we need to attempt a repair or just completely reinstall your OS. You will need to get your Windows XP CD back.
