My Desktop Idea, does it Work?

So under this text will be a series of computer parts. It will go "Title of Part", "Name of Part", and then "URL for part". If there is a better/cheaper website to find one of these items, post. If something doesn't work with something else, post! I've found the total price to be around 700$, so let's see if we can make it about, say, 500$?

Thanks for Posting,

Why are you paying 100 bucks for a sound card and getting a old Geforce 6200 for 45 bucks.

Drop the sound card and upgrade to something like this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...iption=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

And that cooler will be worse than the stock CPU cooler.

I'd recommend getting a Corsair PSU (Antec is pretty good, as is OCZ, but everyone has to admit that Corsair is the best) and a Western Digital HDD (I've had better experience with Western Digital than with Seagate.)

Oh, and I agree with Stranglehold about the GPU. And if you don't want to spend so much on a GPU you could get a 4830 or 9600GT for around $100... a 4850 would probably cost about $20-$30 more, as would a 9800GT. If you decide to get a nVidia card I'd highly recommend EVGA, they're awesome. If you get an ATI card I'd recommend MSI, they seem to make pretty good quality products. :)

And the CPU comes with a cooler, so there's no need to buy one separately.

EDIT: Oh, and in case you're interested, I'll just link what you'd need in order to build a DDR3 rig instead of DDR2:

Try something like this:

You could save a good deal of money by switching to a cheaper case with free shipping such as a coolermaster centurion 5:

Drop the sound card, onboard is fine. Dual dvd burners are kinda unnecessary unless you plan on burning ALOT of media..

@irishwhistle- Depends which psu, pc power and cooling are better than corsair depending upon which one, as the 650 and 750w corsair are made by CWT(channelwell) and the 750W pcp&c is made by seasonic. Overall seasonic are prolly the best psu, but the ocz is also good as the modXstream are made by FSP(Fortron source) and are damn good psu's.

Wait, do computers still output sound if they don't have a sound card?

Also, my sister wants to say that she's a freaking Jew. I've got nothing against Jews...she does.

Last bit of post there... totally random to say the least. But to answer your question, most motherboards have a sound card built into the motherboard(also known as integrated sound). Unless you really want to spend the extra and plan on using with a good quality set of speakers, the onboard sound is plenty for 99% of people.

Alright. Sorry about the random bit, I wanted to get her to leave. She did, surprisingly. The reason I was asking if this all 'worked' together, was because NewEgg had this compatible memory finder on the website, and I had a hard time trying to find 'compatible' memory for my motherboard. Thanks to you guys I can now plan on using my ref money! WOOOHOOO

Yeah, for pretty much any motherboard any memory that is the right type(Eg-speed/type like ddr2, ddr, ddr3 etc);)

All right guys,
Now the price is close to 680$ counting mail-in rebates. If you can, try and think of ways I can save money without sacrificing too much. The sound card sacrifice didn't get rid of much, and now the price is lower, and I've got better equipment, (thanks to bomberboysk). I only made one change to Bomber's idea. Because I want my computer running AND looking wicked, I changed the case to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156060 . This case boasts multiple fans, gauges, and my favorite WICKED look.

If you think this, is a bad choice, POST, and if you want to change any other specs of Bomber's/My specs, POST.

This makes the computer specs look something like this:

Your links are broken..:P To every one else, this is what he is referring to as i fixed the links below:

Only gripe i have with your setup would be IDE dvd burner, sata one would be better:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151173

And before anyone says "Why are you recommending am2+ and ddr2":
Because to go ddr2 in this budget, the cpu would have to be cut down to a tri core, or the low end 810 quad core, as the 940 is $225. Plus add another $20 or so for ddr3 memory, and then another $30 for a crossfire capable am3 motherboard.

Okay, I'm updating right now...so should I use one or two disk drives? I can never really choose.

And for ComputerGuru, I chose your first one as it was cheaper, wicked looking, and had some power behind it too!

Now the whole computer build costs 670$, a 10$ improvement. Way to go guys! I'll put up a complete list of links tomorrow.

And a big thank you to Bomber for fixing my links, I was lazy with those.

I think this'll actually work!

Id go with one, and think twice before purchsing one of those nvidia cards(not to be mean) as you have a crossfire compatible amd board. An ATi Card would be better suited for you, and its roughly 50% or so more powerful than the "new" 9600gso

Alright Bomber, I changed the nVidia to an ATI. I'm not exactly a pro at all this stuff yet, so I want my first computer build to work well, with no compatability issues.

This memory has free shipping, little bit faster, and with free shipping only like 80 cents difference:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166

Same thing with cpu cooler, this is about the same price after shipping, and (only slightly) better:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835207004

Same with ODD, with this one its cheaper and has free shipping... which if im not mistaken should make all your parts ship for free:D

Dude, bomber, you're frickin' amazing at this stuff. Thanks for the changes again, and to everyone post if you can find something cheaper without losing performance. Also, with your changes, the price is now 755$, TOTAL. The ODD's are out of stock, which I hope doesn't last too long. Bomber, do you have a career in this stuff? Because you should go into computer hardware.

Now the complete build looks something like this:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8785194
ISNT IT GREAT TO ONLY HAVE TO CLICK ONCE?

(Also, in your signature, you spelled definitely, "Definately"... )
