My external hard drive isn't working properly

Isn't it strange that it happened within couple seconds? Isn't there anything I can do to recover the data? And last one, if I format it will the drive be fine and usable?

External drives aren't very reliable especially if you move them constantly. If you format a drive that has bad sectors all its gonna do is mark them as unusable. You may be able to do the repair and then try recovering your data and get a new drive.

Tried repairing them and the program failed to do so. Bigfella your program popped up with the same thing. Read Error (CRC)

Pareto logic data recovery software.
It's great software and can recover data from partitions like yours including bad sectors.

NOTE 1: If the program cannot detect the hard drive then delete ALL partitions on the drive using DISK MANAGEMENT all until the entire drive is not in completely UNALLOCATED SPACE.Then create a partition to be big as the entire hard disk drive and then format it in NTFS but using QUICK format.Do NOT use the slow one or especially do not use format tools like KILL DISK or DBAN.Just perform quick format ONLY!

Then try to use Pareto logic data recovery software again and perform the scan.

NOTE 2: Before scanning the drive,go to the ADVANCED section and be sure to select that drive ONLY and ALSO be sure to put check marks on all 4 options before scanning. Here is an image:

This is the only data recovery software which does the job great.
I even returned 95% of my data from my sellphone flash memory lol.It even returned more then 200 music files and more then 100 images which I took with my sellphone a year ago!
Of course I did not need to recovery anything.I was just testing the software to see which data recovery software is the best and this one is definetely the best.Reason:

Not a single data recovery software I tryed did not succeed to recover a single file from my sellphone flash memory except this one.:D

Cheers!

Great, now system can't even see the disk. I plug it in and nothing happens. Device manager can see the disk but nothing else.

Yes, it can. It sees 460gb of unallocated space. Im currently following your guide from above.

Great, the software found all of the data and even more. In fact, it found 1.2tb of data. You forgot to mention that if actually want to recover the data you need to pay for the software.

Additionally, I looked up the program and most people say its crap, full of spyware and only causes problems.

I wouldn't recommend you Pareto logic data recovery software if it's not good.
It is definetely the best recovery software I ever used.
Yes I forgot to mention it's not free, but buying that great software is SURELY NOT a waste of money. It's not expensive at all and can save your life when needed. ;)
I tryed MANY FREE recovery programs and 99% of them would NOT find ANY data to recover while Pareto logic data recovery WOULD find a LOT of data to recover.
That perfectly describes why it's not free while others are. ;)
Of course there are also other data recovery programs which are not free, but they are not even close as good as Pareto logic data recovery.I tryed all of them and Pareto logic is definetely my NUMBER ONE and always will be. ;)
So paying for it IS WORTH IT believe me ;)

By the way do NOT pay attention on people who are saying that Pareto logic data recovery is full of viruses. They say that because:

1. They do not know anything about hardware and software and for that reason they have NO IDEA what they are talking about...

2. If Pareto logic data recovery is full of viruses to them then the reason for that is that they simply decided not to pay for it and instead decided to download it from somewhere (like torrents) and then they downloaded malicious software instead (malware, spyware, adware, dialer, trojan or some other type of malicious software/virus)...

3. People without knowledge like to bullsh!t a lot without trying and studying anything. So don't listen to them ESPECIALLY if their knowledge about computers is small or if they do not have it at all...

Anyway I am glad I helped.

By the way Pareto logic data recovery can recover data from almost ANY type of media.Until this moment as I am writing this I still did not encounter a SINGLE media type from which Pareto logic data recovery was not able to recover the data. ;););)

Cheers!
