Hey I really do need some help so I decided I would clarify a few things

1. It's fine just to tell me the part like "yeah you need a __________"

2. I am not buying a new dvd-rom drive because I am using my old one which is fairly new.

3. Trying to keep the build around that powerful.

4. Trying to keep the build under $200 before shipping. (not sure if that's possible with this power but help.)

Please just help me a little and thanks ahead of time for any response.

Building a computer for under $200 is gonna be hard. get a smaller HDD and more RAM. Also, I would say that you should first try and save some more money so that you can at least get the 8500GT. What are you using this build for?

yes get more ram and make is ddr2 800MHz. and drop the HD in half. have you tried Newegg. they should ship to canada without a problem

ok dude what will this comp be used for, if you want to build a cheap but decent gaming computer that will defiantly not fit in your budget. Also you are missing a power supply and graphics card

Thanks so far for your help and well, I was planning on using this to run some games on lower end. But heck I've been using a windows 2000 pc with 512mb ram and 1.80ghz for so long even a smaller upgrade would do. Oh and yeah I am using newegg but the .ca cause the .com doesn't ship and also the ram I had listed I was planning on buying 2 sticks so is that 2gb enough. Once again thanks all for your help. Any other advice is welcome.

He is probably using the on board video.

ya i thought about that, but the quality normally sucks, i suggest you (crondar) try to expand your budget a pit and fit in a decent graphics card, in the range of $50, also dude use mail in rebates, on my up and coming build i have about $160 in mail in rebates. So im able to buy more expensive and better stuff, but at the same time keep the build at in my budget.

Well it depends what hes using it for, if he doesn't care to play games at all then on board should be fine.

Thanks and I will be planning on gaming a bit (please note lower end gaming is all I need so this builds quality is fine.) so should I get a different motherboard with no on board video and then buy a better quality video card.

I've never used an ECS Elitegroup board, but it's highly recommended that you buy from a brand like ASUS, Gigabyte, or MSI.

How about this? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131330&Tpk=ASUS%20M3A78-CM

I use it and the it's great. And the onboard graphics are awesome (for onboard graphics at least.)

You'll also need a PSU and an operating system... if you're gonna run Vista I'd highly recommend getting 2GBs of RAM. Whatever you get make sure you get two sticks, not one (for dual channel.) In other words: 4GB = 2GB + 2GB, 2GB = 1GB + 1GB, 1GB = 512MB + 512MB, and so on. :)

EDIT: If you need an operating system, but don't want to buy Windows I'd recommend downloading Ubuntu Linux... I use it... runs awesome! :)

Thanks for the Linux suggestion I personally think Linux is the best. But this pc is going to be used by some not so tech minded users that have only ever used windows but I am not including os price in my build cause that's not my problem.

Also I think I will go with your recommended motherboard. So is there anything else missing. Any suggested power supply?

Thanks.

Okeedokee then! :)

Personally I like this PSU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182074&Tpk=Rosewill Stallion 400W

Remember that that RAM won't do though... you'll want two sticks of the same RAM... something like this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134594

Have you considered getting 2GBs of RAM? If you're running XP 1GB should be fine, but Vista really should have 2GB.

Also, I'd recommend making a new thread for a final check... just to double check that everything works. :)

well if he is on a budget he could buy 1gb first, thats what im running on this vista comp right now and it doesnt pretty good, but he'll want to go to 2gbs because it will make the vista experience so much better.

Thank you for all the suggestions and I think I'll take your advise posting up my final to check. That should be up soon. Thanks!
