My First build- Will this work?

I have been looking into building my own computer for a while and finally now have the ability to do so. I have done a good amount of research online, and have written up a prospective build that will give me the most worth for my money, and while I think everything should be compatible, I would like a more experienced opinion on the build.

Case- ThermalTake Armor A90
Processor- Intel I7 930
Motherboard- X58 SLI LE LGA 1366 X58 ATX Motherboard
RAM- Gold Series XTC Cooler 4GB DDR3-1333
Hard Drive- WD Caviar Black 500GB 7,200 RPM
Video Card- EVGA Geforce GTX 465
Power Supply- XION Power Real 1000W ATX Power Supply
Disc Drive- Sony AD-7240S-0B Optiarc DVDRW Drive burner/driver

If possible, could someone say whether all of this would work or not? I would be using windows 7 (64 bit). Everything on this list I found on Tigerdirect (however, I may not buy everything there, as microcenter has the processor for $90 cheaper). I just want a basic opinion as to the compatibility of these parts before I spend $1000 on it all.

You'll want to run 6 Gigs with an i7-930. That CPU is tri channel, and is built to best operate with Ram that is in multiples of 3. This might work. Also... you shouldn't need a 1000W PSU... you are better off looking towards a 750W that is better made.

On the topic of 460 vs. 465, newegg has the 460 priced at $240 with a $10 rebate, and the 465 priced at $230 with a $25 rebate, along with a free copy of Mafia 2. While reviews of the 460 I've read generally rate the 460 slightly higher than the 465, its only by a couple of frames per second. I'm already over my budget by a good amount, and barely make it back via rebates. Also, I've heard that the 460 can't do three way sli, while the 465 can (which is an option I'm considering for the distant future).

Assuming I'm at the point where any extra dollar is a painstaking purchase, is it worth it to get the 460 or the 465? (Also, the free mafia 2 is a nice incentive)
 
Honestly, Just a grab a 460. the 465's were put out to use up GF100 cores that didn't meet the spec for GTX 470/480 parts.

The 460 is definately worth getting over a 465, and you can get one for $230 without any rebates:

The 460 runs cooler, uses less energy, and is faster than the 465.

I'd highly suggest spending the extra $10 for this memory/mobo combo, 1600mhz makes quite a noticeable difference and will help with overclocking if you chose to do so:

I switched the gpu, ram, and psu per your advice, and have saved a lot of money in the process (utilizing combos on Newegg between my motherboard and RAM), while also getting a free copy of Just Cause 2 with the GPU (which is better in my opinion than Mafia 2). As per switching to the Samsung Hard Drive over the Seagate, I have read negative things about that Seagate (that it tends to have inconsistent performance) while the Samsung is highly rated in the reviews I have read.

Does this look good? Or is there some hidden problem that will cause everything to not function? (On the topic of the Operating System, I can get a free copy of Windows 7(be it 32 or 64 bit)).

As long as your "free copy" is legal, you'll want a 64 bit, just remember if it is someone else's operating system DVD and key, it is illegal to install the OS to more than one computer.

The seagate has "inconsistant performance" due to varying levels of firmware throughout the production line(newer drives will have newer firmwares), as long as you update the drives to the the latest firmwares. My 7200.12 1TB is plenty speedy.
 
My free copy of Windows 7 is legal. My father (I'm a high school senior) is able to get free copies of Microsoft for his company, and said he could probably get one for me.

I will switch to the seagate in that case, as it is $16 cheaper, and if it is just a matter of updating, I would rather save the money.

Also, thank you for your help, as you have saved me a good deal of money while increasing the performance I would get based on my original build.

Just remember that many companies only have volume licensing plans, which unless the computer is owned by the company may make it illegal;)
