my husband wants to buy a gaming computer from best buy. he picked out an asus, model G20CB-B10 for $1,399.99. but i wanted to see if i could build a better one, or a decent one, cheaper. so far my total on pcpartpicker.com is just over $1000 with the monitor included. i was hoping i could get some tips on what i have going on since I don't really know what i'm doing. :) I haven't chosen a case yet, i've found several that i liked the looks of (my husband thinks it needs to look cool) so any ideas on a case would be good too!

Don't need an ethernet adapter as the motherboard will have 1 already. Also really don't need a dedicated sound card as onboard sound is sufficient enough. It's the speakers that really make the difference. If you really want a decent gaming machine then get an Intel build. Here is a pcpartpicker with estimated cost.
