My first computer build. Need help.

I have never built a computer before so any help will be useful. I want something for gaming. I plan on putting a blueray player on it later and playing movies on my 52" lcd so its gotta be able to handle that. And a lil other general use. And want to be able to upgrade if i need to later. But anyway this is what i got so far:

ASUS M4A79 Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Processor

APPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case-Love this case!

OCZ Gold 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad kit Desktop Memory

COOLER MASTER V10 Hybrid TEC RR-B2P-UV10-GP 120mm CPU Cooler-I know i don't need it but i want it. Looks so cool!!!

I need a power supply too. Not sure what. But If this build works let me know
or tell me how to make it better. Any input is greatly needed!

8Gb of RAM is rediculous overkill. By the time we can even use that much it will be obsolete. Windows only recognises a maximum of 3.5Gb on a 32bit OS. Save the money and just get 4Gb.

Your probably better off to go Intel. Go ahead and get a Core2duo e8500 overclocked if you want to game (dual cores often outperform quad on games) or get a quad if your using adobe etc.

You'd be fine with a 700w power supply even. You dont need to fry your bank account for things you dont need.

Post your thoughts!

Cheers

I´d suggest the tri core, phenom 2, black edition. It is cheaper than the older phenom quad , less heat and less power draw and very over clockable.

The only thing I´ve found that will bring a PC to it´s knees is video encoding/transcoding.
Reproduction of HD video now uses almost as little resources as Divx,Xvid , thanks to MPC.HC. So this is´nt even worth worrying about imo.
