My first computer build

my computer i about 8 years old now and I've had to take it to shops to get it fixed too many times. I want to get a new computer and make it myself. I do have someone to help me assemble it. I have the case, motherboard, processor, and RAM picked out so far, but now what do i need. I obviously need a hard drive, graphics card or cards, a sound card; but what else would i need. If possible I would like a list of the things that I need and some recommended parts that are durable, efficient, and do not overheat. I don't have an unlimited budget so please try and keep it cost efficient.
My parts are as follows.

Power Supply - Depending on what video card you get, you'll probably want a quality one anywhere from 500-700W.

Video Card - What will you be doing on this system?

Hard Drive(s) - I would shoot for a Seagate Sata 3.0 7200rpm drive(s). Western Digital also makes quality hard drives.

Optical(s) - I would get either 1 or 2 dvd burners. Samsung, Asus, LG are a few of the good brands.

CPU cooler - That Q6600 will come with a heatsink and fan if you buy it retail. However, the stock Intel heatsink/fans can be a pain in the ass to install and aren't the best quality. I recommend getting an aftermarket one.

i will use this system for light gaming, web surfing, and multimedia

I would agree with you... I got gecube radeon 512mb video card here. It works well. By the way is it true that the higher watts you have in your power supply, the higher electric consumption you got/?

On the Nvidia side of video cards, here is a brief rundown of some of the main ones being bought today:

(~$50)Geforce 8500GT - Don't expect to play any newer games well at all with this. Would play older games (at least 2 years old) anywhere from decent to flawlessly. Will handle any common multimedia uses just fine, like everything else on this list.

(~$75)Geforce 8600GT - Can play any game out well on low settings. Of course any older game it will do very well on. Basically like a 7600GT, except with directx10. Not recommended at all for playing newer, demanding games.

(~$115)Geforce 8800GS - Not a bad card at all. A considerable improvement over the 8600GT in newer games. Can play Crysis fairly well, especially for its price.

(~$140)Geforce 9600GT - Benchmarks very similar to the 8800GS, but has an advantage in higher resolutions.

(~$170)Geforce 8800GT - Very nice card, this is commonly regarded as a sweet spot for gamers regarding price/performance. There are cards better than this one, but most cost considerably more money. Can play Crysis well.

Geforce 9800 series - High-end cards with a few different flavors. Basically they are the expensive cards, running around $300+ on average.

Well, there's my brief rundown of some of the more common cards at certain price-points. Since you plan on gaming, I would find some benchmarks for any of these cards or games you might be interested in. I obviously didn't include any ATI stuff and not even all of your Nvidia options. And pay attention to how much memory they have as most video cards have different versions with different amounts of memory, that do make a little difference. Good luck.
