My first computer

My first computer had a memory of only 3.2 GB. One wonders how a computer could operate back then on such a tiny memory since today 1 T is the standard (almost 1000 times more memory ) ? It was made by IPC and I don't think that company exists any longer. After that computer I switched to Dell and now I am on my second Dell Computer which is an Inspiron 530 with Windows Vista. It's almost 6 years old now.

You are talking about Hard drive storage, right. 3.2gb is not bad. In 1989, I had a 84mb HD in a 8088 machine. LOL

Past computers have had much less storage to work with.

Early computers used punched cards or punched paper tape for storage. Then came magnetic tape.

My first PC in 1984 had only 360K floppy drives. I bought my first hdd in 1986, a 20MB Seagate ST-225, for $500.

In 1977, I worked at IBM and we were producing the 3350 disk drive which had 2 sets of disks (HDA - Head Disk Assembly). Each HDA had a capacity of 300MB. The drive was the size of a washer/dryer and required 220VAC to operate.

My first experience with computers was at the US Army Engineer School, Ft Belvoir, VA, in 1972, where we had to learn to program (very basic stuff) with those punched cards...

My first PC experience was similar: bought it in 1985, 4.77MHz, had one 360K drive; bought my first HDD a year or two later (don't remember the make/model, but I think it was 20MB -- I thought it was huge!).

Things have sure changed...!

My first computer was a HP Vectra green screen where you had to use PAMCODE to load software on the 5.25 disks. Then I got some old Mac laptop at a pawn shop. My real computer was a Dell C600 laptop where I had Dial-up. The Internet blew me away! I was always late to work because I was constantly on eBay and other stuff. LOL!
