You could do that and spend the money saved on either a better graphics card (7870) or on your OS.

I just prefer Intel, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the FX-6300 and the AM3+ board.
 
Anything that saves me money sounds good, but will this give me as good performance as the GA-Z77X-D3H and the Intel Core i5 3570K Quad-Core CPU would?

Yeah I second a 6300 and AM3+ board. More money in to the video card makes more sense to me.
