My first full build...does it look ok?

Picking parts for my first full build and just wanted to make sure everything was compatible and looked good. I want to do some decent gaming and I'm really looking forward to RAGE in October. I know some of this isn't a gamers choice or top of the line but I'm on a budget as well. If you have a suggestion that isn't more than $10 on a part I'll take it, otherwise I just need to know if this will be a decent and compatible system. One note is I already have a Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 that I will be using.

Thanks in advance!

that psu will kill your computer, and the case sucks, and that is a rebranded athlon x4, not a real phenom, you need a corsair 500watt builder series, after mir it's only 40 and is wayyyy better than that 1, then of corse the case sucks, and you'll need a hdd and os, and if you plan to use the current 1, the os is liscenced to the mobo so without the disk you cannot transfer it.

for the psu, a corsair builder series 500watt, for the cpu, that one is fine, but it's not a trues phenom x4 was my point, a phenom has l3 cache and athlon doesn't, the 840 doesn't have it, go for the 955 for like 5 more i think, it's worth it, and the os should wourk if you have those, someone else should be able to verify this.

You definitely need to get a different PSU and the case isn't that great. For like an extra $30 or so you could do a lot better. As Johnnyp11 mentioned, you can get a much better processor for less than $10 more.

With your budget

Processor. Its a X3 but most games dont use 4 cores anyway. With the right board and the 4th core is not flawed you can unlock it to a X4. And it has a 10 bucks off promo. Will save you 35 bucks you can spend elsewhere.

Put the 35 bucks extra in this board. AM3+ socket, will run Zambezi when its released. Plus the ability to try to unlock the extra core.

Power supply. Cooler Master is not the best, but with your limit and setup it will be fine. 10 buck rebate makes it 29 bucks too.

or if you can spend alittle more. 10 buck rebate makes it 34 bucks.

Case. only 29.99 with rebate. Good cable management.

Do you have a CD/DVD drive?
Do you have a harddrive?
If your OS is a OEM from a OEM computer you will need a need OS too.

Thats exactly the feedback I was looking for guys. I should have stated earlier...

I'd like to use my current hard drive and I have a copy of Windows that I've used on multiple computers...would that work?

I will be using my current optical drive.

It seems like you are all recommending ATX rather than MicroATX. I liked the smaller case and motherboard but will an ATX board and mid ATX case be a better choice?

I've also been told that 4 gigs is plenty for now and that 8 is still a bit overkill for most OS and software. True?

I would look at a different motherboard, power supply and memory. You picked a Socket AM3 main board. Go with a Socket AM3+ motherboard. It supports the next generation AMD processors.

Take a look at this motherboard, memory and power supply:

ASUS M5A97 Socket AM3+ Motherboard - $100

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4 gigabytes (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) RAM - $50

Antec BP550 Plus 550 Watt Continuous Power Power Supply Unit - $68

Those are very good choices, you should buy them instead. :) I have that motherboard and it's awesome, with clear and complete instructions. And I like the last case you picked. I also think you should buy the AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz, it will be plenty.

This is the case I've been keeping an eye on...

Thoughts...

No cable management, plus pretty cheap made. Either of the ones I gave you a link to would be better.

I have the same board in my post. Your memory and power supply would put him over his budget. Plus either power supply in my post would be fine for the cost and run a setup like he will have. Was trying to keep close to his original budget.
