I'm building this computer in mind of playing World of Warcraft, and Counter-strike 1.6, at a constant high FPS rate.
With that in mind i would love some feedback and some constructive criticism to get the optimum gaming experience out of my chosen parts, and price range, which is about $700.

I am in no hurry, and i actually plan on waiting to buy everything so i get the best bang for my buck, so if you guys see anything that i can throw in and take out that would be awesome.

I would appreciate your expertise :o

Recommend going for an 890fx chipset (you can do an Asus for like $40 more than that motherboard), and I do not recommend that processor
You can do an Athlon II x4 for a couple bucks more than that thing, and your performance will go through the roof

You'll need a little more PSU with the better graphics cards. I'd recommend either of these,

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W

SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

You also might as well get a 1TB drive for about the same price as the WD Black,

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB

I think you'll be happy with the graphics card for your intended use. :)

Why would you think an Athlon II will outperform a Phenom II?

2 extra cores, which in CSS, won't make a difference, but then a single core CPU can max it, but in WoW, it will make a heck of a difference, especially when cata comes out. The Athlon II x4 would be better than the Phenom II x2

you might want to look at this for the mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...3131637&cm_re=asus_sli-_-13-131-637-_-Product

it's asus again but with sli so you can add another gpu in later, basically the same am3, ddr3 (ddr3 support is higher at 2000, but the qvl says it can support higher)
the only drawback is that the pci-ex will run at x8 instead of x16 regardless of wheather one or two gpus are used. but this means that if you had gtx 480 you would only lose around 2-4%

if you did choose this take a look at this which will confirm what i said above about the pci-ex slots

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GTX_480_PCI-Express_Scaling/

really makes no difference

Fair enough. :good:

I wouldn't "skimp" on the power supply, but you can get a decent unit for a little less money.

Any of these:
CORSAIR 430W $44.99

SILVERSTONE 400W $48.99

Antec 400W $49.99

XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W $49.99

You could also get a smaller hard drive for now, and add another for storage later.

Seagate Barracuda 320GB Now: $44.99

Or my personal favorite:
Seagate Barracuda 500GB $54.99

An Open Box motherboard may not have all the connector cables included.
It also may, you never know.

He's recommending a motherboard that has the option for a second graphics card in the future. The board he chose has a slower PCI-E slot, but you wouldn't notice the difference.

A 400W PSU for a GTX460 is cutting it a little fine, especially an overclocked one. However, you are right in saying that money can be saved, whilst keeping a decent unit. Personally, I would go for the Seasonic unit that jevery posted, however money can be saved with:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371020

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207007

One of those. Of them, I would take the XFX or Antec unit

we have discussed this before, its been raised amongst the team again however so leave it will us. In the mean time, why doesnt everyone suggest some new title and ranking groups. Cant guarentee we will use them, but the more ideas the better
thanks

The extra $5 (After MIR) for:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=3952373&SID=ee3723l9wr

is so worth it. Xclio have some ok units, but even those are middle of the road rather than very good. The power supply is the most important components in there, if the can't power your system, it won't work, if it is under too much load or is a pile of crap, it will end up failing and damaging other parts of your system, so don't skimp on it.

I dunno why nForce chipsets are bad. I'm new enough that I'm making progress by recognizing that SLI on an AMD board is probably not the best option. On those chipsets not being the best, Bomberboy said they are bad and I'm pretty comfortable taking his word for it, especially when all of the other savy posters here seem to agree.

i also trust what bombeboy says but the 750 chipset really isnt that bad it comes out better than the 780a, i do know what he is talking about and it does make sense that amd works best but the are several advantages over 790fx, the usb speeds are substantially faster, and cpu usage is lower when doing this, the 750 also has support for raid which amd does not, there are also several other features like hybrid power that save power.
With referencer only to the 750a chipset they are review as being pretty solid
In the benches that i'm looking at the 750 chip set outperforms both the 780a and the 790fx in gaming, albeit marginally.
In the reviews i have read there are no compatibilty issues or any particular problems
I also own this board and bought it because i have used amd/ati for many years now and wish to change and this seems like the best budget option on for sli with amd and sli scales better than crossfire, now only about 10% better but still.
I'm not sure if your talking compatibility or what but i would like to know exactly what details make it bad, i'm not saying it is the best but it is certainly not the worst, i only suggested it because the op was opting for nividia not amd and so sli would make sense for the same price, the only thing i have come across is that this series of nforce is not as good for ocing in comparison to amd chipsets and some slight latency issue with due to the design of the pic-express but that is it.
and just to clarify no one else on this thread has said it is a bad choice, they just recommended a crossfire board over sli because the op has now chosen a ati/amd card
sorry to go off topic i'm just wanting a in depth answer to further my knowledge
